This quick and easy dutch baby pancake recipe is protein packed and perfect for a busy morning breakfast. It only takes about 10 minutes to put together, with ingredients you already have in your kitchen, and about 20 minutes to bake! Slightly sweet and seasoned with vanilla and cinnamon, this is a favorite breakfast in our home.

This delicious dutch baby pancake is a tried and true favorite in our home. My 6 year old and 3 year old sons both request it for breakfast multiple times a week! Using 6 eggs and whole milk, it is a great option if you are looking for a way to add protein to your breakfast. Vanilla extract and cinnamon are among the ingredients, giving it a similar flavor to homemade french toast. It has a soft and chewy texture and is perfect served with fresh or frozen fruit and topped with maple syrup.

Puff Pancake

Dutch baby pancakes are sometimes called puff pancakes. This is because of their appearance while cooking and when they are first taken out of the oven. When the batter is poured into a preheated cast iron pan, steam is created causing it to quickly expand and puff up. Vigorous mixing in a blender or with a hand mixer aerates the batter, also contributing to its puffy appearance.

Eggs – Eggs are such an easy way to add protein to your diet, and this recipe has 6 of them! One great thing about this quick and easy breakfast is that it uses up eggs. If you have chickens like we do you know why that is a good thing, especially in the warmer months! In mid to late Spring when there are multiple baskets of eggs on our counter, dutch baby pancakes are a great way to make use of a lot of them.

All Purpose Flour – For this recipe you can use regular all purpose wheat flour, or all purpose einkorn flour. Einkorn is an ancient grain that is more nutrient dense and easily digested than modern day wheat. It also has a weaker gluten strain than modern wheat, making it more tolerable for some people who have gluten sensitivities. We enjoy using einkorn flour in baked goods because of its slightly nutty flavor.

Whole Milk – I use whole milk in this recipe because it is what we usually have on hand. You can, however, easily substitute with almond or oat milk or whatever you prefer.

Full ingredient list and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
