Easy Whole Wheat Honey Oat Sandwich Bread

This hardy whole wheat honey oat sandwich bread is sure to be a hit with the whole family! The whole wheat flour makes it heavier than white bread, still leaving it soft with a slightly chewy crust.

Cook Time 35 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cup milk warm
  • 2 1/4 tsps yeast
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 4 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 1/2 tsps salt
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1-1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

Equipment

  • Stand Mixer
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

Method
 

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer with dough hook attachment, combine warm milk, yeast and honey. Let stand about 5 minutes.
  2. Add melted butter, salt, whole wheat flour and oats to bowl and begin to mix on the 2nd setting of the mixer. Dough will remain very wet.
  3. Add in white flour 1/2 cup at a time as needed.
  4. Continue to let the mixer knead dough for about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Form dough into a ball, cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm place (like in the oven with the light on) for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch dough down and form into loaf shape. Place in loaf pan and cover again with the damp towel. Let rise for about another hour or until it has significantly increased in size.
  7. Preheat oven to 375.
  8. Dust bread with flour of your choice and score (optional)
  9. Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes.
  10. Allow to cool at least 10 minutes before removing from pan.
  11. Allow to cool almost completely before slicing.
